|
| Q: |
Are TOTO toilets more difficult to install than a standard toilet?
|
| A: |
When it comes to installation, TOTO toilets are no different than any other toilet on the market. Although the models with unifit rough-in are unique to TOTO, they are neither easier nor more difficult to install than any other toilet model.

|
| Q: |
How can I tell if the toilet comes with a seat?
|
| A: |
All TOTO one piece toilets include a seat (generally the SS114 soft-close seat) while TOTO two piece toilets do not.
|
| Q: |
I need a toilet that will fit a 10" (14") rough-in. Which one will work?
|
| A: |
If you have a 10" or 14" rough-in, the only TOTO toilets that will fit are skirted (smooth along the sides) NOTE: The TOTO Nexus and the TOTO Lloyd only fit a standard 12" rough-in.
|
| Q: |
What name is used to refer to the pipe in the floor that the toilet sits on?
|
| A: |
The pipe in the floor is called the "drain and waste" or DWV. A "flange" sits atop the DWV and has holes for the "t-bolts" of the toilet to attach and secure positioning. A "supply line" runs from the wall or floor near the toilet and connects to the toilet tank, providing water to the toilet. The "wax ring" sits atop the flange and creates a seal between the flange and the bottom of the toilet.
|
| Q: |
Why is there a note about installing a skirted toilet?
|
| A: |
The skirted portion of a skirted toilet is designed to fit almost flush with the wall. This design can interfere with the positioning of the supply line as the toilet can't be positioned properly if the skirt bumps into the supply line. Supply lines can be adjusted by your plumber, although the task gets more difficult if the backstop is finished with tile. Refer to the spec sheet for the exact details of the skirt and the suggested positioning of the supply line.
|
| Q: |
What is a rough-in and how do I measure it?
|
| A: |
The "rough-in" is the distance from the finished portion of the wall to the center of the "drain and waste" pipe. You may need to adjust the measurement if you have large baseboards or chair railing. If a toilet is already positioned, a good approximation of its rough-in distance is to measure from the center of the bolt caps to the wall. The most common rough-in is 12".

| Q: |
What is the difference between a "Standard Soft-Close Seat (ss114)" and a "Traditional Soft-Close Seat (ss154)"?
|
| A: |
The only difference between a traditional TOTO soft-close seat (SS154) and a standard TOTO softclose seat (SS114) is that the traditional has a beveled edge cut into the lid, giving it a little more detail. The traditional seat is generally the seat of choice for models with more classic details such as the TOTO Clayton or the TOTO Promenade

|
| Q: |
What are the differences between the TOTO flushes and which one is considered the best?
|
| A: |
TOTO now has 6 flushes to consider - Gravity Feed, Siphon Jet Gravity, Power Gravity, G-Max, Cyclone, and Dual Max.
- TOTO Gravity Feed toilets direct 100% of the water to enter the bowl through the rim, causing a bit of a splash in the bottom of the bowl when it is flushed. Gravity Feed models generally have a 2" flush valve, a slightly smaller trap diameter at 1-7/8" and utilize the more traditional ballcock fill valve (big floating ball). Gravity Feed toilets include the TOTO Carusoe and the TOTO Promenade.
- TOTO Siphon Jet Gravity flush is exclusive to the TOTO Dalton. This toilet, like the Gravity Feed, still contains the traditional ballcock fill valve while incorporating a siphon jet washout at the bottom of the bowl. With a siphon jet, a portion of the water that would traditionally enter the bowl along the rim is diverted and enters the bowl at the very bottom and ejects directly into the trapway, creating much less disturbance and forcing the waste directly out the bottom of the bowl. Siphon Jet Gravity models have a 2-1/8" fully glazed trap.
- Braking away from the more traditional ballcock fill valves, the TOTO Power Gravity models contain a redesigned, higer performance Power Gravity fill valve. This adaptation removes any external moving devices from the fill valve and is said to create a higher amount of "head pressure" than the traditional ballcock, leading to a more powerful flush. All Power Gravity toilets have a 3" flush valve, 2-1/8" fully glazed trap, and a siphon jet to aid performance. TOTO Power Gravity toilets include TOTO Supreme, TOTO Bristol, and TOTO Dorian.
- Modifications to the Power Gravity flushing system led to the well known and trusted TOTO G-Max flushing system. Bringing together advancements to the Power Gravity fill valve with a modified flapper has led to the TOTO G-Max flushing system that is built into TOTO's most popular toilet, the TOTO Drake. The Drake, having been recognized by many municipal testing groups as the best flushing toilet on the market, has given all models with the G-Max flush the reputation as having a completly thorough flush time after time. Like all Power Gravity models, G-Max toilets have a 3" flush valve, 2-1/8" fully glazed trap, and siphon jet action. Additional TOTO G-Max toilets include the TOTO Nexus, TOTO UltraMax, and TOTO Carlyle.
- Exclusive to the TOTO Neorest, the Cyclone flushing system has a multisequential rim mounted siphon jet wash that completely washes the interior of the bowl from the top down with spiraling streams of water. Unlike the flush found in any other toilet, the Cyclone action, accompanied by the super-enlarged 2-7/16" trap of the Neorest, is simply untouchable in its ability to impress. Of course, the flush is not the only unique feature to this ultra-luxury item as the Neorest also contains built in bidet features, heated seats, auto-opening and closing of the lid and an automatic flush.
- The most recent addition to the TOTO line, the Dual-Max, featured exclusively on the TOTO Aquia, is designed to offer both .9 and 1.6 GPF in efforts to more efficiently conserve water. Activated by a push-button atop the lid, the dual flush feature allows the user to use judgement as to the amount necessary to refresh the waste water in the bowl.

| Q: |
Is there a performance difference between the round front and elongated front toilets?
|
| A: |
Although manufacturers push the idea that there is not a difference in performance between round front and elongated toilets, the most recent round of MaP Test would indicate otherwise. In 2004 testing, the round front TOTO Ultimate MS853113 flushed 400 grams of test meso paste while the elongated front TOTO Ultimate MS854114 flushed only 325 grams. All things being equal, it would clearly indicate that in this instance the round front version performed decidedly better than the elongated version. Although it is a stretch to apply this example across all circumstances, this would lead weight to the idea that there is a difference in the finished shape. Although it would help to clear the issue, comprehensive testing of all versions of all models has not been conducted.

| Q: |
Do TOTO bidets come with the faucet I see in the picture?
|
| A: |
No, TOTO bidets do not include the faucet.
|
| Q: |
What are the commercial toilets? Are they loud?
|
| A: |
The toilets listed as commercial for TOTO are simply the residential models that TOTO has identified as being suitable for commercial applications. With that said, they are no louder than a standard residential toilet and do not sound like a "jet".
|
| Q: |
Will any seat fit a TOTO toilet?
|
| A: |
Although matching colors can prove to be a bit difficult unless you select TOTO manufactured seat, the answer is "yes"; any standard seat with 5 ½" spread will fit a TOTO toilet.
|
| Q: |
What is an insulated tank?
|
| A: |
An insulated tank is lined along the inside of the tank to prevent condensation in parts of the country that tank "sweating" is common. Insulated tanks can also be popular in outdoor, commercial installations. Insulated tanks are offered as options for the TOTO Drake and the TOTO Carusoe.
|
| Q: |
Can any wax ring be used with a TOTO toilet?
|
| A: |
Once again, a TOTO toilet is designed exactly the same as any other toilet and any wax ring that you would choose for installation of any other toilet will work just fine.
|
| Q: |
What portions of the toilet is coated when selecting a Sana-Gloss toilet?
|
| A: |
Sana-Gloss is applied to the entire ….finish
|
| Q: |
Do I need Sana-Gloss?
|
| A: |
Sana-Gloss is not an "end all" to cleaning toilets but it definitely cuts down on certain aspects such as hard water stains and mineral deposits. You are still going to have leftover remnants inside the bowl after use due to the lack of thorough "rim-wash" experienced from a 1.6GPF toilet.
|
| Q: |
What can I use to clean Sana-Gloss toilets?
|
| A: |
In order to keep the Sana-Gloss finish functioning at its best, it is suggested that you never use an abrasive cleaner and if at all possible stick to a liquid cleaner. The Sana-Gloss finish is not a "coating" but rather a finer, more structured way of baking the porcelain within the bowl portion of the toilets.
