| REVIEW by Drippy Dan, NY 12/08/2009 | Date Purchased: 12/2009
Overall Rating: 7/10
Flush Rating: 5/10
Ease of Installation: 2/10 " Bought this toto 3 years ago. There is an annoying drip noise that comes and goes, mostly comes. I've disassembled this thing more times than I care to count and it still will drip, and drips generally all the time when you sit on it. I can't get it solved. The local vendor is clueless, so if there is a maintenance report on this problem, they're not sharing. "

Ease of Installation: 4/10 " Ok-
a lot of people like this toilet. I have one, I installed it, there is nothing terribly abnormal about how it works. However, I have two significant problems with this toilet. I'm comparing it to a 4 year old Kohler toilet which was there only compact elongated toilet at the time of purchase. First, the Carlyle takes almost twice as long to refill after each flush. The reason this is a problem is because occasionally, if the lever isn't held long enough the user can experience a misflush. A misflush with this toilet means the bowl contents are minimaly flushed if the lever is not depressed accurately. This results in a very long wait time for the very slow valve to refill the tank to enable a reflush. Maybe I have a toilet samlple with a faulty valve, but what I know is the water supply valve is fully open and had adequate pressure with the last toilet. Second and most important is its' cleanliness. First of all I'm a male, and the Toto Carlye is in our master bedroom so in the middle of the night it is my go to toilet. The problem is- If you stand to pee then be prepared to wipe down the entire upper rim every time because there is an exorbitant amount of splash created by the bowl and water level as compared to the Kohler. Personally I do not see any reason or advantage to spending an additional $250+ for the Carlyle. Yes the flush is powerfull but it's not reliable. Bottom line is I regret the extra expense over the better Kohler bowl. "

Ease of Installation: 10/10 " Fantastic toilet! Not a single clog to date (after 3 years of use and 4 of these in our house). Do not use the seat attachment hardware included with the seat. Instead be sure to use the black rubber blind installation fasteners included with the toilet. Standard seat hardware will allow seat movement and the black expansion fastener addresses this. Plumbers do not read instructions and will likely miss this. If your seat was mistakenly installed with the usual nylon screws and nuts you can obtain the correct hardware by calling Toto customer service. They sent it to me for free. "

Ease of Installation: 9/10 " Can you really LOVE a toilet? YES! After clearing almost daily clogs (even from small children using an American Standard), this toilet is a blessing! Never another clog. Cleaning inside is easy and the skirted bottom makes it especially attractive and easy to keep clean. Love it!!!! "

Ease of Installation: 8/10 " Based upon the review on this and similar sites. I decided to give this the Carlyle a spin. I had a (older) Kohler low flush toilet that was junk. It needed multiple flushes of solid waste and cleaning after that. It would plug easily. I considered getting a recent Kohler, but with my past experience and the prices they asked I wanted I passed. I was very concerned about the installation as I had read about having to reposition my angle stops and drill through tile. I shouldn't have worried. First I removed my Kohler peice of junk out of the way. Then I laid the unifit unit where it would go. The 12 inch unifit caused the toilet to hit the angle stop. I made an appointment for the plumber to move my angle stops out 8 inches from center, but I got the idea to try a 10 inch unifit. It worked like a charm without the extra cost of the plumber (and the drywall guy to fix the resulting hole). I did all the work myself. You have to be somewhat handy (and strong), but as long as you buy the 5/16 tile drill bit and wax rings it will work. My angle stops were 3 inches from the wall and I had about 1.5 inches remaining with the 10 inch unifit. The toilet is a work of art to look at, but so was the Kohler. I'm reviewing this on the same day I installed it, but so far so good. Solid waste seems to fall in the deepest part of the toilet unlike the Kohler. Less chance of material to stick. The flushes were less strong than I thought, and I noticed some material remaining, but nothing overwhelming. The unifit system is nice for situations where you need the toilet out of the way for painting or tiling and you won't have to replace the wax ring every time. The skirt gives it a classy look and should cut down on the areas for dirt to hide. Great product. "

Ease of Installation: 9/10 " bought two toilets, one was $750, other over $800. Flush valve in tank sticks after 8 months of use on both units. Water runs until handle is jiggled. Disappointed considering how much we paid for this model...extremely disappointed. "

Flush Rating: 10/10
Ease of Installation: 10/10 " Very nice toilet! The 1.6 gallon flush works better than our older 1.6. Great products, great price, and everything arrived undamaged double boxed well packaged. Installation is also easy if you are handy - I did not have 8 inch clearance on the water line and paid a plummer to move it 4 inch to the left after that I installed the toilet and drill 4 anchor holes. Once that is done, with the Toto system these are the easiest toilets to seat that I have ever installed. They are also easy to remove for painting as you don't need to remove the flange and wax seal. "

Flush Rating: 10/10
Ease of Installation: 9/10 " Great flusher, easy to keep clean, easy to install (the only reason I didn't give it a ten is the one-piece design makes it VERY heavy and awkward to maneuver in small spaces like the powder room where we put this one). We used the Unifit adapter for a 14-inch rough-in, which is a brilliant solution for installing modern toilets in old houses. This one works so well, I don't even miss my 1928 John Douglas super-flushers. One caveat -- we opted for the Sanagloss surface, but it seems to need cleaning more often than our other TOTO (a Carrolton) that doesn't have the more expensive finish. "

Overall Rating: 8/10
Flush Rating: 9/10
Ease of Installation: 7/10 " Excellent toilet, purchased for my own home. Rarely clogs and very easy to clean. Negatives besides the price are the relatively flimsy attachment of the seat (through bolts aren't possible because of the design), use of velcro to attach the tank cover, and, someday, having to but an expensive and specialized flapper valve or other proprietary parts. Installation required drilling additional holes into the floor at the back of the unit but seems very secure. I would recommend this or the Drake without hesitation, and plan to buy another myself this week. "

Ease of Installation: 8/10 " These toilets are fantastic! The 1.6 gallon flush works better than our old commodes' 3.5 gallons. The washlet was also well worth the money- get one and you will agree. Great products, great price, and everything arrived undamaged. Installation is also easy if you are handy- but you must drill 4 anchor holes for each commode. Once that is done, with the Toto system these are the easiest toilets to seat that I have ever installed. "

Ease of Installation: 9/10 " This is the the only tolet that I have had that meets the new standards of 1.6 gal and really works. I bought a top of the line toilet from a home outlet center for my other bathroom two years before. It take three flushes to get rid of the waste. So much for saving water and that toilet was not cheap. "

Ease of Installation: 10/10 " Finally a toilet that works. We thought it was a drain problem. Friend told us to get a Toto. He was right! No more problems..love the way it cleans. We also installed a Neorest in the master bathroom. Love it too. Going to order Carlyle Toilet for the other bathrooms. Worth every penny! Love the skirted and sanagloss finish. My husband installed and had to buy a new drill bit for tile but everything else was just like any other toilet to install. "

Quiet and flushing power really amazed us to. We just love the styling which was why I chose this model. Although I had to buy the 10 inch outlet because our bathroom is small,it was worth it. Thank you Toto for your product. "
