Ease of Installation: 10/10 " I purchased this toilet when I remodeled my bathroom to ADA standards. The toilet flushes almost anything. It has only been clogged once when someone tried to flush an Adult Depends down. However, just one push with a "plumbers helper" cleared the obstruction. I highly recommend this Toto toilet. "

Ease of Installation: 10/10 " Bought the 854114S to replace an older Mansfield during a remodel. Installation was straightforward and consistent with any standard toilet. The toilet performed perfectly straight out of the box, no mechanical problems encountered or adjustments required. As far as sending waste down the line, the flushing action does seem to be superior compared to standard toilets. However, as others have mentioned, the flush action and bowl refill action does tend to leave more debris on the sides of the bowl. Nice modern look and the one-piece design makes the outside of the toilet easier to clean. The seat seems to have a deeper and narrower design compared to most seats I have used. At 6' and 165 lbs I find the seat to be comfortable, however I suspect that larger people may want to install a different seat. The bottom line is that the wife and I are pleased with the toilet and would buy another without hesitation. "

Ease of Installation: 10/10 " Simply cannot say enough about this toilet. Purchased to replace 30 year-old toilets I was concerned that like so many of the low-volume toilets I had encountered in the recent past they were not up to the task. I had seen the review here and was skeptical that virtually all of then were glowingly positive.
Boy was I wrong!! These have been in for two months and work first time, every time. With the exceptionally quick recovery they were able to handle a large party at our house with no problem. The reviews, if anything were not positive enough.
Installation was simple and could be done by anyone with simple tools and a good back.
One observation - We ended up with one Sanagloss and the other not. I cannot tell any difference. As one other viewer wrote we have now moved the plunger to the garage, where it belongs. "

Ease of Installation: 10/10 " Overall very happy with toilet. Flushes waste completely every time. Slow close seat is great. Easy install. Bitches: Harder to clear around seat than many other toilets. Could have been a better/simpler design. Wish I'd ordered Sanagloss finish -- any messy waste tends to stick to sides of bowl. "

Ease of Installation: 10/10 " Based on Internet information, I ordered an UltraMax to replace an aging Kohler unit. The Kohler Wellworth offered decent service, but it developed a leak in parts that were irreplaceable. The Toto has been in service for about 24 hours, but I’ll offer up my initial impressions so far.
The toilet is very easy to install. Although it isn’t light, the one piece design eliminates one additional set of gaskets, screws, and nuts that need to be fiddled with, and gets rid of that space between bowl and tank that always seems to be so difficult to keep clean. This also eliminates one more place that could potentially leak. Users on this board recommended going with a wax-less bowl ring, but my toilet flange was not compatible with this technology. It’s in use right now, but I’m removing it this morning, to replace it with a wax ring. The wax is messier, but it always works. It’s also cheaper than the waxless.
The toilet is attractive to look at, and seems to be assembled from quality parts. The tank is much smaller than a standard toilet. This looks modern, but I think I’d rather have a larger tank. We have a well, and when power goes out, we lose water service. Having a large tank gives you 3 flushes or so before the tank empties. The Toto will barely give you two if you’re lucky. Further, there isn’t much room to support the ubiquitous tissue box that usually sits on the tank lid. There’s room, but the tissue box looks out of place there.
The seat is made from plastic instead of plastic-coated wood. This might suggest that the seat is light and flimsy, but the end result turns out to be rugged, and solid with lot of plastic in the design. The slow closing mechanism is nice to prevent seat slams (I’ve had a few over the years), but I’m still not sold on the idea that it was a good choice. We’ll have to see if the slow-close hinge lasts as long as a normal seat. I have to admit that if I could have purchased the unit with a normal seat, I would have done so. The jury is still out on this one. The seat itself is highly contoured, much more so than a normal style. As a result, the unit is very comfortable on which to sit – much more so than the older designs. When you rock to the side to wipe however, the design becomes VERY UNCOMFORTABLE, such that you don’t want to spend much time in this position.
The water pool in the bowl is large enough and well placed to catch all waste dropping from the body. This helps to prevent the waste from sticking to the bowl. So far, splashing doesn’t appear to be an issue. Flushing is very good. One flush completely removed the solid waste that was deposited in the bowl. When I was comparing Kohler to Toto, the Kohler rep told me that the Toto units sounded like a 747 taking off, and that the noise would drive the family crazy. This might have been the case with older units, but this particular unit is as quiet as any home toilet that I’ve seen, and is nothing like the commercial ones that are pressure driven. Noise is NOT a problem here since the flush mechanism is gravity powered.
All of these issues are very trivial. I’m very pleased with the unit, and if it offers 30 years of service without breakdown, I’ll be satisfied. There is one flaw though that worries me – the tank lid. On most other toilets, the tank lid overlaps the tank with a lip. This lip keeps the tank lid from sliding off onto the floor. The Toto lid sits flush with the top of the tank, and has no lip. Toto uses Velcro to keep the lid from sliding off. Considering that this Velcro sits in a wet environment, I’m very concerned that this material will become moldy, and will fall apart too quickly. This will leave a pretty heavy lid just balancing on the top of the tank. We’ll have to see if my fears are realized.

Ease of Installation: 10/10 " Bought two, one elongated, one round. Round one problematic, have replaced flapper three times, still has water run on. Flush generally good but not great at cleaning bowl on either elongated or round. Somehow I sense that if you could modify to add another litre of water to the flush, it would be better. I think this product is somewhat overrated, but I guess to what else is out there in gravity models, this is still near the top. "

Ease of Installation: 10/10 " This thing is terrific. I have an 18 year old son who eats by the cubic foot and sh### in equal volumes. I was used to coming into the bathroom after he had flushed a couple of times and needing to flush a couple more times myself. Not something to look forward to. With this it's one quiet flush - a little gurgle and it's gone. Nothing special about the installation. Couldn't be happier. "

Ease of Installation: 10/10 " There is very little to criticize with this toilet. Installation was a breeze. With the one piece design all you do is set it on the flange and hook up the water supply, and your done. Flushes first time every time. Our unit was delivered missing the flush valve float. We contacted TOTO and a new valve was at our doorstep in the morning. "

Perfect powerful flushing, elegant shape, would have preferred satin nickel handle,(my plumber showed me how it can be achieved using a fine sand paper). Like the soft closing seat,in my installation I don't mid sloped top of tank. "

Ease of Installation: 10/10 " This is far and above the best toilet that I have ever owned. It surpasses every other toilet that I have ever seen in efficiency, speed and quietness. The only reason di dnot give it a ten in the overall rating category is due to a design decision by Toto. I would have preferred that the tank lid have a level surface to be able to put something on it. Other than this one tiny flaw, this is a perfect toilet. "

Ease of Installation: 10/10 " So far we love our Toto toilet. And eventually would love to purchase another one for 2nd bathroom in our house. We always had problems with the toilet that we replaced. The house is only 17 years old and this is the 3rd toilet that we've purchased for that bathroom. Knock on wood, no overflows yet, and previously we were averaging an overflow at least once every two months or so. Hopefully, we will never again have any embarrassing situations thanks to Toto. "
