Consumer Reviews & Ratings: (All) - TOTO DRAKE CST744S |
| REVIEW by Diane, OH 10/27/2010 | Date Purchased: 10/2009
Overall Rating: 10/10
Flush Rating: 10/10
Ease of Installation: 9/10 " Had Toto Drakes in a home we built in 2002 and LOVED THEM! Moved last year into an older home and set about remodeling the bathrooms. The Toto Drake is the ONLY TOILET I would have in my house. Even with two teenage boys, the Toto toilets almost never clog. And they are beautiful, too. People think I'm weird to be so passionate about a toilet, but once you have a Toto Drake, you will never settle for any other brand! Love the "slam proof" lids!! "

Overall Rating: 4/10
Flush Rating: 3/10
Ease of Installation: 10/10 " I'm being painfully honest and realistic here. I've replaced my old toilet due to plunging at least 3 times a week. This toilet needs plunging less frequently, but once it does clog, unclogging it is long, awful and messy. A lot messier than unclogging my old toilet. The low water level and the incompatibility fitting with standard plunger causes water to spill and splash back when plunged.
I've bought this toilet on rave reviews, and I'm very disapointed. If I've known about this I would have saved myself the money and bought a caroma toilet instead. "

Flush Rating: 5/10
Ease of Installation: 5/10 " G-Max flush is fine for emptying bowl, but bowl wash action almost non-existent. Bowl streaking is frequent, disgusting, and annoying to deal with -- need to use bowl brush after almost every #2 (just ordinary, not particularly large or loose). Product is overrated, in my opinion. "

Overall Rating: 10/10
Flush Rating: 10/10
Ease of Installation: 10/10 " Excellent toilet. Purchased 1 and waited a month to see how good it was before replacing 2 more. Installed the first more then 3 months ago. Replaced contractor grade toilets that I plunged probably 1 or 2 times per week, and that was after trying multiple flushes. Have not had to plunge or multiple flush even one time since installation! Coincidentally found that 2 family members also had Toto toilets installed and loved them as well.
The 1.6 gal refills much faster then the old one, which has also changed my routine. The flapper value stays open only as long as the handle is depressed – which isn’t long in even a “full” flush. We therefore depress according to need, which saves even more water. Also has a quiet flush (vs. some of the assist toilets).
While the rough in lists 12”, it could almost support 11” (don’t hold me to that number). That means there’s a noticeable gap between the tank and the wall, so the wall behind the existing toilet may need to be prepared as well - painted, repaired, etc.- as needed. In the powder room I’m going to use that to my advantage in applying wainscoting. Also, as the lid and tank are same size (the lid doesn’t sit down over the tank) I find the gap between the two to be noticeable, but I’m the only one in the family. While using a blue-colored cleaner in the bowl I noticed a tinge of blue color was visible after the flush. I interpreted this as not all of the fluid was evacuated, but I haven’t noticed this in regular use; I assume it exhibits the same property, but it wasn’t practically discernable.
I had no real problem with the installations, other than my own mistake of over tightening tank (my fault). I have no basis for comparison as these are the only toilets I’ve installed, but they didn’t take me very long and were pretty easy to do.
Finally, note that the tank is the same part number for both the elongated and round bowl.

Flush Rating: 9/10
Ease of Installation: 8/10 " I got this without the sanagloss, and it tends to stain. I have a water softener and copper pipes at my house, so I don't really know why there are brown streaks down the side of the bowl. The flush is o.k. though. If you have a lot to flush, just hold the handle down longer, and it'll do the trick. The flush is quiet. "

Ease of Installation: 10/10 " Did much research from Love's in Seattle, where you could actually 'flush' online! Found Bill Gates had installed 6+ Toto's in his home in that locality, and that it is the no. one toilet sold on the planet, designed in Japan! All of my three children installed new Totos in their homes as well, and we all believe they are excellent! I threw out the biffy brush, never had to flush twice, remains very clean following flushes and save some $25 a month on flushes, which has more than paid for the new toilet!! "

Also toilet base not perfectly level with floor. Poor quality control on a product that operates well and saves considerable water. But all things considered, I will buy two additional units for our house to replace Amer. Std. toilets. "

Ease of Installation: 10/10 " Replaced two toilets in my house with the Toto Drake. Almost bought typical brand from local home and garden store, but decided to research a bit and glad I did. Never heard of Toto, but took a chance based on reviews from others. Works perfect every time. Have never had to flush twice, like I did with old models. Will recommend this model to all my friends. Ordered mine online and got much better deal than at the local distributor, plus it was shipped to my door. Had plumber install mine and took only about an hour per commode. One note, the Toto does not fit flush with the wall. Was not expecting the 1-2" gap, but it does show this in the drawings. "

Ease of Installation: 10/10 " I had one installed in our master bath in 2000, then one in our 2nd bath in 2007 w/a sanagloss finish. The one in the master started clogging occasionally a couple of years ago and I found it was probably because it had started to degloss below the waterline. I had just the bowl replaced with one with a sanagloss finish a few months ago (with a washlet seat too!) and haven't had any problem since. They flush great, fill fast, and are pretty problem-free. After putting in the Drakes, a plunger didn't have to live in my bathroom anymore! "

I have not had 1 clog in the past 3 years, and am so impressed by these toilets that I told my wife we would be replacing the toilets in our next house with Toto's. Well, we just bought our next house 3 weeks ago, and I was overjoyed to see that 2 of the 3 toilets were already Toto's! That is 2/3 less work and money for me to spend. "

Ease of Installation: 9/10 " After many years of dealing with a guest bathroom toilet that clogged so regularly it was almost a daily occurrence, I have recently installed a Toto Drake. After removing a 5 year old Kohler 1.6, I fully expected to see some evidence of a occluded waste pipe. This wasn't the case, in fact the pipe was so clean I could still see the purple joint primer. Just to make sure, I chased the drain with a 25' snake - again all clear. Once I installed the Toto I must admit I wasn't completely awed by its flush. I was kind of expecting something more dramatic, however, looks can be deceiving. Unlike the Kohler, the Toto just plain works. It's obvious there is some very sound engineering in the design and 1.6 gallons can, and will, get the job done. Right...how much difference can there be in a toilet? Enough that there has not been a single clog, not even a double flush required since the Toto has been on duty! Now the plunger, that was once so prominently displayed, has a new home - in the garage where it belongs. "

The last straw was when had a party and the bathroom clogged during the festivities. Three days later, I installed two Toto Drake toilets. I have not used a plunger yet. The quiet yet intense flushes produce a clean bowl everytime. Believe me when I say Once you go Toto, you never go back. "

Ease of Installation: 10/10 " We replaced a contractor grade toilet, which clogged and was cheaply built (had to replace rubber seals every few years). The Drake is great and hasn't clogged yet dispite our young kids and several parties! Strong and fast flush. We plan to replace the rest of our toilets with Drakes and Ultramax models. Soft close seat is great although I'm finding it hard to remember not to let go of the seats of other toilets without this feature! A little harder to clean around this seat, but no big deal. The seat is a little bit narrow, which might be uncomfortable for larger folks, but is fine for our family. You could get another brand seat. "

Is it possible to fall in love with a toilet? One flush....gone! Clean bowl, very quiet, and only 1.6 gallons. I'll be sure to use these in every house we buy from now on. Also bought the soft close seats and lids, which are unbelievable. I'm a hard grader, but nothing less than 10 would be an honest evaluation. "

Exasperated at having to flush 1-3 times, wasting water and constantly using the plunger, we decided to replace them with the highly advertised American Standard Champion Flush... until we read all the negative reviews on-line. Then we discovered TOTO. The reviews were overwhelmingly positive. So we tried them out. NOT ONE PROBLEM SINCE THEN. My sister has since replaced two in her new home with TOTO models and my neighbor up the street used all TOTO models in their bathrooms. Don't even hesitate! You can't go wrong with TOTOs. "
